OPEN CALL - NOW SHOWING - Deadline Sunday 10th August
NOW SHOWING - presented by Oblong, in collaboration with curator Josephine Fity
Deadline for submission: Sunday 10th August
Exhibition dates: 15.09 - 25.10.25
Oblong and curator Josephine Fity invite artists working with photography as their medium to submit works for Now Showing, a salon-style group exhibition.
About the exhibition
Now Showing takes inspiration from the 19th-century salon hanging tradition—where artworks are densely installed floor-to-ceiling—but reimagined for the contemporary photographic landscape. Rather than grouping works by theme or author, the exhibition will embrace intuitive, playful, and aesthetic curation that create new conversations between pieces, allowing visual rhythms and resonances to emerge.
In an age of digital feeds and infinite scrolls, Now Showing reclaims physical space as a site of visual abundance and layered attention. The salon-style format honours photography’s democratic potential: to compress, contradict, and coalesce divergent viewpoints within a single frame—or, in this case, a single wall.
Now Showing is an ambitious, celebratory exhibition that repositions photography at the centre of contemporary art discourse. Through its collaborative, non-hierarchical installation, it invites new ways of looking—not only at images, but at photography itself as a vital, urgent, and profoundly artistic practice full of friction. It is a celebration of photography’s plurality and a reminder of the power of collective visual storytelling.
who can apply
We welcome all artists who engage with photography in thoughtful, experimental, and intentional ways - emerging, mid-career, and established artists. We’re looking for compelling, singular works that hold their own but also spark conversations in a crowded visual field. We encourage artists working with moving-image to also apply.
