EXHIBITION StatementIn autumn 2026, Photography Now! opens at The Black Diamond, exploring the many forms and voices of photography in contemporary art. Royal Danish Library has invited five Danish galleries to present their perspectives on what characterises photography in contemporary art today. The result is a collectively curated exhibition in which each gallery creates its own exhibition space featuring selected artists and works.

Ditte Johanne Krogh Bertelsen (b. 1992) is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. She holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
Her practice revolves around body, space, and movement, explored through photography, various printmaking techniques, video, and performance.
Using her body as a tool in spatial compositions, she challenges social norms and bodily codes. Shot with an iPhone, her images merge snapshot aesthetics with surreal composition, creating unsettling scenes where presence and absence, intimacy and absurdity continuously shift. The viewer is invited into a space where everything is up for negotiation.
Her work has been exhibited at institutions including Nikolaj Kunsthal, Den Frie, Kunsthal Aarhus, Galleri Arden Asbæk, and Kunsthal Charlottenborg. -
Mads Juel graduated from Malmö Art Academy (2017) and subsequently participated in the Independent Study Programme Maumaus in Lisbon (2024). In his practice, he often combines conceptual strategies and queer theory with a poetic vulnerability across media such as photography, video, text, and book production. In Juel’s artistic practice, the concept of time is central: as a fundamental photographic condition, in the notion of “queer time”, and as a social and economic instrument that shapes bodies and expectations. He has recently exhibited at Skal Contemporary, Fotografisk Center, Alice Folker Gallery, c4 projects and Kunsthal Charlottenborg.

Magnus Lind Nielsen's (b. 1997) practice is rooted in his home of Albertslund, where he explores the area in relation to proletarian values, class, sociology, politics, representation and visual culture. Working across a variety of media - photography, printmaking, installation and collage - Lind Nielsen seeks to create playful yet critically reflective forms of expression.
He asks: how can stereotypes and prejudices be viewed and used as an artistic resource? And, can this foster greater understanding between people from different backgrounds?
Lind Nielsen holds a BFA from the Royal Danish Academy, where he is currently completing his MFA. His work has been widely exhibited in Denmark, with several public works on permanent display within Albertslund municipality.

Matilde Søes Rasmussen (b. 1990) works with photography, writing and film, creating work that exists as a hybrid between literature and visual art. With a background of more than fifteen years as a fashion model, she makes work about labour and the commodification of bodies within visual culture.
Having stood on both sides of the camera, her work investigates the complex relationships between artists and the people who stand in front of them as either models or muses, or simply as inspiration for artworks. Over the past five years, her work has explored the dynamics of these encounters and what it means to continue this ritual in her own work, through artist books, exhibitions and text-readings for live audiences.
Rasmussen holds an MFA in Fine Art Photography from HfBK University of Fine Arts Hamburg, Germany and has exhibited at venues including Kunsthal Aarhus; Bucerius Forum, Hamburg; Oblong, Copenhagen and Galeria Santa Maria Maior in Lisbon. She has participated in several residencies including at the NARS Foundation in New York and the International Writers’ Workshop at the Hong Kong Baptist University. In 2026, she is participating in the Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles. -
Minh Ngọc Nguyen (b. 1992) works with photography both as a medium and as a visual system, creating staged still lifes that question the boundaries of the genre while examining identity, memory, and consumer culture. Grounded in a commercial aesthetic, his work subverts the mechanics of studio advertising to explore how visual culture shapes collective understanding of desire and belonging.
He merges pop imagery, stereotypes, and visual tropes drawn from his own media consumption, such as video games and post-internet culture, with a witty, allegorical visual language. By isolating and recontextualizing everyday consumer objects, Southeast Asian references, and diasporic iconography, his work explores the sculptural quality and vitality carried by materials in the absence of human figures, creating surreal compositions where humor, seduction, and alienation coexist.
Nguyễn holds an MFA in Photography from HDK-Valand in Gothenburg and a BA in Visual Communication from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Copenhagen. He has recently exhibited at commune (Tokyo), the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma (Helsinki), Fuocherello (Turin), Isaak Fangel (Copenhagen), MELK (Oslo), and Andréhn-Schiptjenko (Stockholm). His work is represented in public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, The Danish Arts Foundation, Region Västra Götaland, City of Gothenburg, Jönköping Municipality, and Region Gävleborg, among others. Nguyễn lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. -
Nivikka Andersen (b. 1996) is a visual artist and photographer based in Copenhagen. Working primarily with analogue photography, which she combines with painting and sculptural elements, she explores identity, belonging, power, and the gaze. Drawing on symbols, Inuit culture, and mythological narratives, her work questions who has the right to look, to be seen, and to tell stories. Her connection to Kalaallit Nunaat and Denmark forms an important context for her practice. In her photographic processes, she allows dust, scratches, and chance to become part of the image

Valerie Collart (b. 1981) is a French visual artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She studied at the Superior school of Fine Arts” Villa Arson” in Nice, France.
Her practice moves between sculpture and photography, exploring the dynamic interplay of these mediums with a deep focus on materiality and its poetic possibilities.
Collart’s work navigates the space between the manipulated, artificial image and the raw, physical object, embracing the fleeting and the fragile.
Along with the exhibition “Photography now” at the Black Diamond, Collart is participating in a group exhibition at Læsø Kunsthal (DK), running until the end if October.
Collart is preparing for two solo exhibitions in Denmark in 2027: a major presentation at Viborg Kunsthal and a subsequent show at Gallery Image in Aarhus.

Ville Vidø is a transdisciplinary artist and creator of cinematic worlds based in Copenhagen. Vidø’s surrealistic and visually immersive work - fusing sculptural installation with photography, video and various gaming engines - creates emotional playgrounds to propose heavier questions concerning the dynamic of domination and submission.
Pulling from personal experience, Vidø seeks to analyse the influence of capitalism on the classification of mental illness and madness and its profound effect on the portrayal of nonbinary bodies and dyke identities.
Vidø holds a BA in Fine Arts from Gerrit Rietveld Academia, Amsterdam. They created the official portrait of Franciska Rosenkilde, former Minister of Culture in Copenhagen, now displayed in City Hall, and served as Art Director and Production Designer on the virtual reality project Dark Rooms, which premiered at the 2025 Venice Biennale.
